General Assembly Lamps

The GROW team have recently been hard at work on an ambitious collection of limited edition lamps. These lamps are being fashioned from a lovely oak balustrade which used to enclose an area in front of the Moderator's chair in the General Assembly Hall of the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh.

The balustrade was removed during renovations at the General Assembly in 1999 and was eventually offered to the Grassmarket Community Project for recycling. The balusters are thought to have been individually turned by hand around 1858.

The lamp bases are being made from either “new” oak or two pieces of oak recycled from former church pews and turned on the lathe by GCP volunteers learning the craft of woodturning. These lamps preserve a little piece of history and we hope that they will provide a warm and welcoming glow in their new homes.

The lamps will cost £100 each (without the shade). If you are interested you can either contact us through the website or phone Tommy Steel directly on 07889169155.
